If you’re new to studying the Bible, it’s helpful to have a guide that gets you started and helps you overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed.
The Bible is a big and wonderful book of treasures. It’s a history book that contains God’s Words, will, and ways. It tells us how to live our daily lives and tells us how people lived out their faith from the very beginning. So, when you think about studying it, you may not know where to start and that is the purpose of the Bible Study Guide for Beginners – to make all this easier.
Types of Bible Studies
There are many types of Bible Studies and here are a few. You can study the Bible using any method you choose, and the Bible Study Guide For Beginners works with all of these types of studies.
- Verse Study – So how can you study the Bible? You can start with just one verse. Find one you really like and start digging into it. Look up the meaning of words in that verse and write out your thoughts about it. Why is this a special verse to you? When you read it, what is God saying to you?
- Section Study – You might have a section of a Chapter you really enjoy. Maybe it consists of 1-2 verses or many more. Do the same thing with it that you would do with a single verse.
- Chapter Study – Studying a full chapter of the Bible is good because you gain the benefit of context, which is very important. You might have to read a couple of verses before or after the Chapter break because paragraphs are often broken up in the division of Scripture.
- Book Study – another way is to study an entire Book of the Bible and do things like outlining, historical research, and more.
- Topical Study – in this type of study, you will be all over the Bible. Perhaps you’re studying the Holy Spirit. He’s mentioned beginning in Genesis and through to end. Topical studies require a good concordance or Study Bible or you can Google the subject matter saying something like – “scripture on Holy Spirit.”
- Character Study – perhaps you’re interested in understanding more about the authors or people in the Bible. Some Bibles provide you with history and the internet is also a source. However, as with all things on the internet, check your source to be sure it’s reliable and not just an opinion.

Reasons To Study the Bible
Why should you study and use the Bible Study Guide for Beginners? There are lots of good reasons to do more than read and forget. We are to take God’s Words and eat them in Jeremiah 15:16 NIV. We are also told to write them on our hearts and that they will guide our steps in Proverbs 3:3 and Proverbs 16:9 .
The Words in the Bible can be just words or, they can be God’s Words. It’s up to you. If they’re God’s Words, then they’re meant to be a treasure of life, inspiration, strength, and hope to us. They’re meant to be known and used by those who love Him.
The words in the Bible can be just words or, they can be God's Words. It's up to you. If they are God's Words, then they are meant to be a treasure of life, inspiration, strength, and hope to us. They are meant to be known and used… Click To TweetThe Word says this of itself, “For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.” Hebrews 4:12 TPT
If we believe that’s true, then why wouldn’t we do all we could to know and follow these instructions? That’s the reason to study your Bible and use the Bible Study Guide for Beginners. God’s message of grace and love is ours for the taking. The things He asked of us from the very beginning, as in the Ten Commandments, are simply things that are for our own good.
The gift of the Holy Spirit and the Fruit of the Spirit are for our benefit. Whenever God asks us ‘not’ to do something, it’s simply because He sees what we need before we do and knows what’s truly best for us.
If you have children, you understand the concept of telling your children not to do something and even explaining why only to have them make every effort to disobey and do the thing you said not to do. You told them no in order to protect them. Unfortunately, humans are prone to wanting to learn for themselves, even in matters that cause harm. We tell our children not to take drugs, but some do and are harmed by it.
Unfortunately, it’s the same in our relationship with God. The Ten Commandments tell us about things we shouldn’t do, but we do them anyway and harm ourselves and others. God is not trying to prevent us from doing something wonderful and beneficial! Just the opposite – He sees the end from the beginning and yet we often fail to heed His warnings.
What is the answer? Go to Proverbs and you’ll see. Proverbs 1 is a warning regarding ignoring God’s wisdom and telling us what the consequences will be. Proverbs 2 then tells us how to live a life of wisdom instead of the foolishness of Chapter 1. Read Proverbs 1 and then look at these verses from Chapter 2.
My child, will you treasure my wisdom? Then, and only then, will you acquire it. And only if you accept my advice and hide it within will you succeed. Proverbs 2:1 TPT (Verses 1-15)
So train your heart to listen when I speak and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment – then pass it on to your sons and daughters. Proverbs 2:2
Yes, cry out for comprehension and intercede for insight. For if you keep seeking it like a man would search for sterling silver, searching in hidden places for cherished treasure, then you will discover the fear of the Lord and find the true knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:3-5
Each verse contains individual instruction for us and you can see that it’s all for our good. For instance, verse 2 tells us how to achieve this – Train Your Heart To Listen When God Speaks. This is why we study the Bible.
