There is power in a life of faithfulness to God. If you are a Christian, then you have heard the words faith, faithful, and faithfulness many times and you may have somewhat of an understanding of what it means. As we gain an understanding of what faithfulness to God means, we will also experience the 18 Signs of the Power of Faithfulness to God.
Here are some familiar scriptures just to remind you of what the Word says about faithfulness:
Faith is the assurance of things you have hoped for, the absolute conviction that there are realities you’ve never seen. Hebrews 11:1 Voice
Sing, all you who remain faithful! Pour out your hearts to the Eternal with praise and melodies;
let grateful music fill the air and bless His name. Psalm 30:4 Voice
If you’re faithful in small-scale matters, you’ll be faithful with far bigger responsibilities. If you’re crooked in small responsibilities, you’ll be no different in bigger things. Luke 16:10 Voice
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4 NIV
Examples of Faith in the BIble
Hebrews 11 has a list of people who were examples of faith. It is often called the Faith Hall of Fame. Some of the names include Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Rahab, David, Samuel, and many others.
Hebrews 11:30 includes the story of the walls of Jericho falling saying, “by faith the walls of Jericho fell down….” which is a battle fought under the faithful leadership of Joshua. Joshua was a man known for his obedience and faithfulness to God.
What is the definition of Faithfulness in the Bible?
What is the definition of faithfulness in the Bible? Dictionary.com defines faithfulness in this way:
- lasting loyalty and trustworthiness in relationships, especially marriage and friendship:
- the fact or quality of being true to one’s word or comittments, as to what one has pledged to do, professes to believe, etc.; in the Bible, the Psalmist David reports God’s faithfulness in keeping promises.
- The fact or quality of being dedicated and steadfast in performing one’s duty, working for a cause, etc.
- The quality of adhering to a fact, a standard, or an original.
Faithfulness is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit as God states in Galatians 5:22-23 Voice, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.“
Faithfulness is the living out of the absolute conviction in our lives as we see in Hebrews 11:1. It is a belief so strong that it changes every part of our lives as we adhere to the principles which are part of the conviction.

Joshua in the Bible
In Joshua 1:7 NIV, God Himself gives instruction to Joshua, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.“
What is significant about Joshua is that he did exactly what God had asked him to do. He obeyed all of Moses’ law and did not turn to the right or the left.
The people of Israel revered Joshua just as they had done with Moses (Joshua 4:14).
Joshua commanded the sun to stand still and the Bible says that Joshua was the only man whose voice God regarded. That is the power of faithfulness.
At the end of his life, Joshua made this famous statement, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
If you read the book of Joshua, you will see his repeated acts of faithfulness to God. He lived what he believed and experienced the power of faithfulness to God.
Peter in Acts
Peter in the Book of Acts stands out as an example of faith and faithfulness. Just prior to this time in his life in Acts, he had denied his faith in Jesus. However, he repented and here in Acts we see the drastic change in his life.
At Pentecost, after the Holy Spirit had fallen on all who were there, Peter you will see Peter’s sermon in Acts 2:14-41. At the end, over three thousand souls were added to the believers. One speech and one day saw 3,0000 come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Peter’s boldness came from his faithfulness.
As you read on through Acts, you see healing and conversions taking place regularly. Peter was also one of the Apostles who established the Church along with James, the brother of Jesus, John, Matthias, Barnabas, Paul (Saul), and the other apostles. Their faith was shown in their faithfulness and Peter definitely experienced the power of faithfulness to God.
Mary in the New Testament
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is a precious example of faithfulness. Mary was a teenager when she became the unwed, virgin mother of Jesus. When the angel appeared to her and told her what would come, this was her faith-filled response, “Then Mary said, ‘Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed.” Luke 1:38 NKJV
When Mary then goes to visit her relative, the baby that Elizabeth was carrying (John the Baptist) lept in her womb and Elizabeth prophesied concerning the child Mary carried saying He was the promised Messiah.
The song of Mary is called The Magnificat. Mary said in her song “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.” Read Luke 1:47-55 to see all that Mary said.
For the rest of her life, Mary was faithful to God, even in the death of her firstborn Son, and as part of the early Church. Mary’s amazing faithfulness to God and His Word is an example to us.
Esther in Hardship
Esther is another example of faith. Esther was a Jewish orphan being raised by her cousin, Mordecai, and she becomes the queen of the Persian king Ahasuerus. The Bible says she ‘was born for such a time as this.’
Mordecai and Esther risked their lives because of their faithfulness to the God they loved. I won’t retell the story here, but please read the book of Esther for yourself. The twists and turns that lead Esther and Mordecai through are truly interesting.
In the end, Esther’s faith and faithfulness to God cause the enemy to be defeated and and save the Jewish people.
These are, of course, just 4 of a multitude of others who demonstrated their faithfulness to God. Each one demonstrated the power of faithfulness to God.
- Joshua’s sign was unwavering obedience.
- Peter’s sign was fearlessness.
- Esther’s was boldness.
- Mary’s was submission to God’s will.
Definition of FaITHFULNESS TO GOD
What is faithfulness to God? As we have said – it is faith in action. James said that ‘faith without works was dead.’ He was not saying that you work your way into heaven. Instead, he was saying that true faith would show itself in acts or works of faithfulness. We can show our faith by our works – James 2:18.
Faithfulness to God is a character quality, a part of your spirit, and the Spirit of God who dwells in you. Faithfulness comes from the conviction described earlier. It means you are fully convinced or persuaded. It is a divine persuasion of God’s preferred will as your own will is given over to Him.
SCRIPTURES ON FAITHFULNESS
Following is a list of Scriptures on our faithfulness to God:
Proverbs 28:20 NIV, “A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.“
1 John 1:9 NIV, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 3:3-4 NIV, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.“
Luke 12:42-44 NIV, “The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.”
Galatians 3:8-9 NIV, “ Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”
Psalm 40:10-11 ESV, “I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!“
Hebrews 10:22-23 ESV, “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 ESV, “ Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Revelation 2:10 ESV, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.“
2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
HE Who Is Faithful in the Little Things
This passage of Scripture below is important in our study of power of faithfulness:
Luke 16:10-12 TPT, “The one who faithfully manages the little he has been given will be promoted and trusted with greater responsibilities. But those who cheat with the little they have been given will not be considered trustworthy to receive more. If you have not handled the riches of this world with integrity, why should you be trusted with the eternal treasures of the spiritual world? And if you’ve not proven yourself faithful with what belongs to another, why should you be given wealth of your own?“
Here Jesus uses an analogy to teach about faithfulness. This isn’t just about money. We are to prove ourselves faithful with what belongs to another – with what belongs to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! He has given us gifts along with His life and Spirit, eternal life, communion with the Father, and freedom from sin and death. How are we handling this immeasurable wealth?
What Does it Mean to Be Faithful in the Little Things?
What does it mean to be faithful in the little things? How about ‘little’ things like temptations to lie, cheat, and sin while thinking nobody sees? Being faithful in little things means having integrity in all circumstances and doing the right thing even when nobody sees.
When our integrity and faithfulness are tested, how do we respond? It’s the little tests in life that reveal our readiness for the greater things God might want to use us for.
Can God Trust You With the Little Things?
This is the question we need to ask ourselves frequently – can God trust me with little things? If not, we need to work on those little things so that they don’t become stumbling blocks for the bigger things. You may need to repent or change your actions in order to be found faithful.
Maybe you need to remember the things God has already done for you, with you, and in you. Write them down to help rebuild your faith in God. He loves you. He forgives. He will not stop working in you. He has a plan for your life.
Now, rise up and begin again to be faithful in the little and the big things He brings your way!
